BBQ/Teriyaki Crock Pot Chicken

This is an unusual recipe because it combines sweet and spicy.  I wasn’t sure what to call it, so I went with BBQ/Teriyaki.  I usually serve this with mashed potatoes (when I call it BBQ) or rice (when I call it Teriyaki).  Either way, it’s terrific.

BBQ/Teriyaki Crock Pot Chicken

* 1 medium onion, chopped
* 1-1/2 teaspoons minced garlic
* 3 lbs. chicken parts,  skin removed
* 2/3 cup ketchup
* 1/3 cup packed brown sugar
* 1 tablespoon chili powder
* 1 tablespoon lemon juice
* 1 teaspoon dried basil
* 1/2 teaspoon salt
* 1/4 teaspoon pepper
* 1/8 teaspoon hot pepper sauce
* 2 tablespoons cornstarch
* 3 tablespoons cold water

Combine onion and garlic in bottom of slow cooker.  Top with chicken.  Combine remaining ingredients, except cornstarch and cold water, in small bowl and pour over chicken.  Cook on LOW 5-6 hours.  Remove chicken from crockpot. Mix cornstarch and cold water until smooth.  Pour into crock pot and stir. Cook on high about 15 minutes until thick.  Serve sauce over chicken.  Serve with mashed potatoes or rice.
